❤️ #Repost @ritamixa ・・・ Went home for the first time in 3 years with a mission... nothing like I’ve typically done which was to just show face & dip but to actually heal a part of my inner child that’s been wounded for so long. ⁣ ⁣ I don’t talk about this often Bc it’s so painful but me and mom got a complicated relationship! Every time I’d see other folx close with their moms, it felt weird Bc I could never connect to what that felt like until recently. ⁣ ⁣ You see me and mom had an 8 month hiatus this year, where I chose to not speak to her...funny thing is that it started a lil before @healingoutlaod launched & gave me clarity about why I was doing HOL... almost as if I was trying to find the answer to me + mom’s relationship thru listening to others share stories about their familial relationships. ⁣ ⁣ So this time around, I came home with a mission to do some inner work & heal w/mom. Never did I think we’d come to this point in our lives to actually talk about our personal issues/conflicts. Never did I think the day would come that my mom would ask about HOL & tell me she was proud of me. Bc you see, it’s hard to have hope when you’ve been wronged. ⁣ ⁣ But this time around it was diff & we put our attachments/egos to the side to talk to each other, finally like mother & daughter. I felt seen + heard + apologized to. I also wanna give mom credit for doing her own inner work to come to this point in taking accountability for her actions that hurt me. Finally, I felt for the first time warm feelings towards my mom. ⁣ ⁣ Not gonna more to the details about what took place Bc y’all gonna have to listen to this convo on a future HOL episode 😉😜 but just know that this episode is very special and one of the rawest ones yet! ⁣ ⁣ I truly believe in breaking intergenerational trauma and moving into healing & EVEN MORE after this home visit. I never wanted to be like my mom but now I know what it’s like to be just like her—someone who laughs a lot, is hella loud, and is so compassionately for/giving. She said we can’t change the past, but we can move forward to the future & focus on the present. ⁣ ⁣ Today, I take so much pride in being my mother’s daughter 💕

Meet the rest of the IMN team!⁣ ⁣ Say hello to Alexis (@alexisphan), Caitlin (@caitlinmaewei ), and Kao (@oracle1963): our IMN contributors who help the managers cover events in different regions of the Iu Mien community. We hope to see more future posts from them! ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ "I believe in preserving our culture and keeping our tradition alive." - Kao Saephanh, Oakland, CA ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ "I love the uniqueness of our Mien culture and the friendliness of our community. Our people have come a long way since our small village way of life -- IMN helps ensure that our beautiful ethnic heritage will continue no matter how far away we are from each other." - Alexis Phan, Sacramento, CA ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ "It means so much to me that we are able to share the rich history that we have on social media and to spread the word about who we are and where we come from. I want to keep on being a positive influence to the future generations to come. Our Iu Mien Community has come a long way and I hope that we continue showing who we are to the world whether its online or word of mouth." - Caitlin Saechao, Redding, CA⁣⁣ - ns ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ #iumiennetwork #iumien #iumienculture ⁣⁣ #imncontributors #imnteam
