❤️ #Repost @ritamixa ・・・ Went home for the first time in 3 years with a mission... nothing like I’ve typically done which was to just show face & dip but to actually heal a part of my inner child that’s been wounded for so long. ⁣ ⁣ I don’t talk about this often Bc it’s so painful but me and mom got a complicated relationship! Every time I’d see other folx close with their moms, it felt weird Bc I could never connect to what that felt like until recently. ⁣ ⁣ You see me and mom had an 8 month hiatus this year, where I chose to not speak to her...funny thing is that it started a lil before @healingoutlaod launched & gave me clarity about why I was doing HOL... almost as if I was trying to find the answer to me + mom’s relationship thru listening to others share stories about their familial relationships. ⁣ ⁣ So this time around, I came home with a mission to do some inner work & heal w/mom. Never did I think we’d come to this point in our lives to actually talk about our personal issues/conflicts. Never did I think the day would come that my mom would ask about HOL & tell me she was proud of me. Bc you see, it’s hard to have hope when you’ve been wronged. ⁣ ⁣ But this time around it was diff & we put our attachments/egos to the side to talk to each other, finally like mother & daughter. I felt seen + heard + apologized to. I also wanna give mom credit for doing her own inner work to come to this point in taking accountability for her actions that hurt me. Finally, I felt for the first time warm feelings towards my mom. ⁣ ⁣ Not gonna more to the details about what took place Bc y’all gonna have to listen to this convo on a future HOL episode 😉😜 but just know that this episode is very special and one of the rawest ones yet! ⁣ ⁣ I truly believe in breaking intergenerational trauma and moving into healing & EVEN MORE after this home visit. I never wanted to be like my mom but now I know what it’s like to be just like her—someone who laughs a lot, is hella loud, and is so compassionately for/giving. She said we can’t change the past, but we can move forward to the future & focus on the present. ⁣ ⁣ Today, I take so much pride in being my mother’s daughter 💕

Well said. 🙏🏽 #Repost @healingoutlaod ・・・ A few days ago we got sad news that @gavinnewsom returned AB1393 (that would include Laotian Hxstory in CA K-12 schools) without his signature. ⁣ ⁣ This cuts deep and as a community, many of us are very disappointed in this decision. It’s a huge psychological trigger for folx like us who’ve been erased for so long— who’ve been told our voices do not matter by institutions that for the very beginning know very little about us...and so as a community, I wanna give us space to mourn this terrible news, to allow ourselves to be upset and to grieve. Bc grieving allows us to actually recognize our humanity amongst this chaos. Bc it allows us to return back to ground. Bc it allows us to understand that we have a story that matters too🇱🇦🇱🇦🇱🇦🇱🇦⁣ ⁣ On the other side of the spectrum, this news only fuels us to not give up and fight back. The thing is that, we are resilient ppl and we are going to exist whether institutions include us or not— that’s why there are tons of Lao/tian orgs and platforms popping up left and right like HOL. Bc even if you decide to not include us, we’ll build our own table. Overall, this loss just means a bigger win is brewing in the near future. S/O to orgs like @lao_sd & @lacfresno who’ve been at the forefront of this movement!!! ⁣ ⁣ Now repeat after me— ⁣ LAO/TIAN PEOPLE ARE VALID. ⁣ LAO/TIAN HXSTORY IS REAL. ⁣ LAO/TIANS ARE RESILIENT. ⁣ #HEALINGOUTLAOD#LAODANDPROUD

⁣⁣ Outstanding article!!⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I don’t understand why some women feel the need to talk badly, cut down, make fun of, gossip about, minimize, or slander other women. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Often when women act that way towards others, it is a reflection of how they feel about themselves. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Instead of such negative behaviour, why not give a compliment, sing praises, and give other women their due credit. Lend a hand, celebrate success and find your tribe. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Surrounding yourself with amazing women is a win for everyone. Disappointed. Dissatisfied. Need further clarification from @gavinnewsom regarding his veto of #AB1393. AND ALSO... Proud. Grateful and INSPIRED by the tireless work of @lao_sd @lacfresno and community network that was created to get the bill on his desk. This is not an end. It’s a beginning.
